Nike Outdoor Nationals-Day One
Girls 5000 witnessed Emily Sisson of Missouri roll to victory in the 5k at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T, in Greensboro, North Carolina tonight, in 16:34.36. This was the second fastest all-time for this meet, with only Ashley Brasovan’s 16:18.91, run last year, quicker. Sisson led early, held off a challenge from Shelby Greany mid way, and then continued to pull away. Lindsay Flanagan finished strong to take second, in 17:01, with Chelsea Ley third in 17:07.
Boys 5000: In the boys 5k, in moderately temperate conditions of about 25C/77F, Solomon Haile took the lead midway and finished strong, crossing the line well clear of second place Zachary Ornelas. Haile’s 14:32 broke the meet record that he had set at this same venue last year. Ornelas finished well, in 14:50 for second, with Matt Mizerack, who moved up well from the 2 mile mark on, closing strong for third in 14:53. Ornelas won the steeple last year and will contest the Steeple on Saturday afternoon
